Young Shipowners Group

The Young Shipowners’ Group - set up on 28th June 1995 in implementation of Article 26 of the Confederation Statute - pursues the following goals:

  • promoting full awareness among young shipowners of the ethical and social function of free enterprise and the responsibilities that derive thereof;

  • gaining greater insight into the themes of major strategic importance for the shipping industry and the maritime system as a whole;

  • contributing to the constant updating of Confitarma in respect of the changing economic and social conditions of the shipping industry, as well as to the training of new generations for managing Confitarma’s activities.

The group is made up of some fifty young shipowners – shipowners’ sons and daughters and shipping company executives directly engaged in the industrial scenarios represented by Confitarma.
The Young Shipowners play an active part in the life of the Confederation: the Group’s President is a member of Confitarma’s Council and Executive Committee by right and the members are extensively represented in the various Permanent Committees involved with the principal issues concerning the shipping industry and the maritime system.
The Young Shipowners have contributed to the conception and organization of the second Seamast on economy and maritime company’s tecnics, sponsored by Confitarma, Port Authority and Provincia of Savona, in 2003. Financed with European Union founds, the Master resolves upon training project aiming to provide those professional figures required by shipping and harbour companies for the economic and financial management.
Moreover, they are directly involved in the school reform that the new Italian government is carrying out and in the questions related to the generational change within the shipping companies – traditionally family businesses – taking into account also the new rules on corporate governance.
